便利商店賣的那種一片一片有包裝的「吐司麵包」英文怎麼講？
阿，大概有90％的人會說“toast”.
我告訴你，這個東西不叫 “toast” ！
但我有很多學生朋友會說錯，我想大概是因為包裝上常寫著「吐司」，才會引入歧途啦！
其實，toast 是「烤」的意思。若你把買來的麵包給烤好，才能說是 toast！（就像今天這張圖片的麵包，才是 toast）
沒烤過的只是 a piece of bread 而已！
你可以這樣記：烤麵包機是 toaster. 把 bread 放進 toaster 才是 toast!

關於 toast 還有些有趣的說法。
例如，toast 有時表示「完蛋了」的意思，比喻上的感覺是「烤焦」、「烤死」等。
Oh, my god. I forgot to do my homework. I’m toast, man.
My hard drive is toast. I’m just going to have to get a new one.

還有一個比較正面的說法：toasty. 意思是「溫暖」，「溫馨」，就像壁爐會「烤出」的氣氛。
I love turning on my heater in December. My apartment feels so warm and toasty.
I just don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I just can’t get out from under my toasty blanket!
